About Shankar Lalwani

Shankar Lalwani was born on 16 October 1961 in Indore. His Father Jamnadas Lalwani came before the partition of Akhand Bharat. Jamnadas Lalwani is active in RSS even after coming to Indore. He was and used to work in the Jan Sangh Party. He was also a President of the Sarafa Association in Madhya Pradesh for many years. His mother Shrimati Gora Devi Lalwani is a housewife.

He passed the Higher Secondary examination from the Madhya Pradesh Secondary Education Board. Then study B-Tech at Veer Mata Jijabai Technological Institute Mumbai. He passed with good marks and then After coming to Indore, he got involved in business and consultancy. As a young boy, he was always inspired by the stories of the great patriots of the nation and dreamt of working for the progress of the motherland.

From 1994 to 1999, he was a Councillor in the Indore Municipal Corporation. After this, from 1999 to 2009, he held the post of Chairperson of Indore Municipal Corporation for 10 years. In 2013, he was made the Chairperson of Indore Development Authority for 5 years. In 2019, when the Bhartiya Janata Party gave him the Lok Sabha ticket, he won by a historic margin of about 5.5 lakh votes. He defeated his nearest rival, Pankaj Sanghvi of the Indian National Congress. After becoming an MP, he is a member of the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs in the Lok Sabha. He is also a member of the Committee on Absence of Members from the Sitting of the House. Apart from this, he is also a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

He has been an active contributor to cultural and social activities. He played a major role in setting up two reading rooms in the field of literature.

Through Lok Sanskriti Manch, he is engaged in enriching the field of Indian art and culture. Engaging youth in arts and culture programs. They have a goal, and a large number of people are associated with their events. From the smallest cultural event to the biggest event of Indore, his role is clearly visible. Whether it is Hartalika Festival or Gudi Padwa Festival, events organized by people of the Sindhi community or programs of immigrant Hindus from Pakistan. Every year they organize live events like Malwa festival in Indore, in which lakhs of people participate and get acquainted with Indian culture and civilization . Through the Malwa festival, he has worked to popularize the country's culture and has also opened new possibilities for artists. Along with this, he gave a platform to the vanishing arts and worked to provide a market for Indian handicrafts and artisans.

He has a keen interest in infrastructure development . He is very serious about the development of Indore and all the surrounding cities. Perhaps considering his interest, he has been made a member of the parliamentary committee . While being the chairman of the Indore Development Authority for 5 years, he made many plans for the development of Indore and its surrounding areas and motivated them to implement them.

If today Indore is seen in its developed form, then the contribution of Shankar Lalwani should be remembered behind it, which he did as a corporator, Chairman Municipal Corporation, and head of the Indore Development Authority. Shankar Lalwani's contribution has also been behind Indore being on top in cleanliness for 5 consecutive times. Indore was declared the cleanest city for the fifth time and was rewarded at a grand function in Delhi. He has always been doing the work of spreading awareness among the masses for cleanliness.

He is interested in the sports like Kabaddi and Swimming. He does yoga regularly and follows a vegetarian lifestyle. Due to his efforts, 9 world records were set in the field of art and culture in Indore. To solve the traffic problem of Indore, he took the initiative for many bridges and flyovers in the city. Today, with all of them being in Indore, traffic has been facilitated to a great extent. He had launched a campaign to plant a large number of trees in and around the city. Along with this, he has also started many schemes to provide employment for the youth. His contribution to the beauty of Indore city is also incomparable.
